To start the engine smoothly every time:
1. Prime the Engine: Push the primer bulb exactly 3 times (do not prime a warm engine).
2. Engage the Bail: Stand behind the mower and depress the blade control bail completely against the upper handle.
3. Pull the Rope: While holding the bail firmly, grasp the starter handle and pull the rope out with a rapid, continuous, full arm stroke.
If the starter rope won't budge or feels extremely heavy, it is almost always because the blade control bail was not fully depressed before pulling.
For your safety, this mower is engineered with an automatic mechanical blade brake. When the bail is released, the brake instantly locks the engine components. If you attempt to pull the starter rope without holding the bail down, you are fighting the locked safety brake, which stops the cord from moving. Squeezing the bail completely against the handle disengages this brake, allowing the rope to pull smoothly every time.
No, assembly is fast and requires no complex tools. The mower comes out of the box mostly pre-assembled. You only need to complete three simple structural steps before adding oil and fuel:
1. Unfold the Handles: Unfold the lower and upper handles, then secure them tightly using the provided handle connecting knobs on each side.
2. Position the Starter Rope: Hold the safety bail down, slowly pull the starter rope from the engine, and slip it into the designated rope guide on the upper handle. Secure the control cable to the lower handle using the included cable clamp.
3. Set Up for Mowing: Out of the box, the unit functions immediately as a mulcher. If you prefer side-discharging, simply lift the built-in mulching cover and hook the side discharge cover onto the hinge pin.
The mower features a dual-lever height adjustment system. The heights of the front and rear wheels are adjusted independently by two separate levers located right above the wheels. It offers 6 different cutting heights ranging from 1.25 inches to 3.75 inches. To maintain a balanced and clean cut, always ensure that all four wheels are set to the exact same height position.
For long-term or off-season storage (over 30 days), follow these steps to protect the engine:
* Drain the Fuel: Run the engine until it stops completely from a lack of fuel, or use a gasoline stabilizer mixed with the fuel to prevent gum deposits from forming in the fuel system and carburetor.
* Change the Oil: Drain and change the engine oil while the engine is still warm from its last run.
* Clean the Unit: Remove all grass clippings, dirt, and debris from the chassis and underside of the mower deck.
* Rust Protection: Coat the cutting blade with chassis grease to prevent rusting, and lightly lubricate the control cables and moving pivots with light oil or silicone. Store the unit in a clean, dry area.
